The Monster Machine creates monsters for the Dragonhead TTRPG. It works just like the Character Creator, especially by way of its interface and the way the tool buttons and the work area operate.
In many ways a monster is like a very simple character. Click on the New button to get started. Adjust its abilities as needed. Click on Basics and work your way down the button tree, adding to it whatever amuses you. Periodically click on View to see how it will all look once printed out.
Like a character, nearly everything you give a monster will cost a number of experience points. Keep an eye on the XP total beneath the completion button. If you are looking to create something to send up against some 1st to 3rd level characters? Try to keep the monster's level between 1st and 3rd level.
Keep in mind that levels are just a generalization of power. They do not take into account just how well those XP were spent or how powerful the monster will be when encountered in large numbers.
To get your creation to work with the encounter creator you need to mark it as Complete and Save it to the database. Refresh the encounter creator and your new monster will appear in its tables.
Nobody but you will be able to see or use the monster unless you created it for a specific campaign. Then it will be made available to the other members of that campaign, providing you also set its Share to Public or Copy. An item kept Private can only be seen by you.
Something to keep in mind with campaigns is that they work like a filter overlaying the entire system. Once set in place you will only see the stuff you have made for that campaign. Remove the campaign filter and you will only see the items not made for any campaign. More on this can be learned by clicking the Campaign button and reading the hints hidden in the titles.
